Fossil Museums
| There are hundreds of well known museums with fossil displays. Some are well known, but there are dozens of others with excellent displays that are either in out of the way locations, or are simply not well advertized. We will try to critique as many as we can. American Museum of Natural History The American Museum of Natural History, located in New York City is probably the worlds best known and most visited museum. Their dinosaur displays are some of the most spectacular any where. The museum is a large complex, with four floors of display. Other exhibits include Geology, Anthropology, Mammalogy, Biology, Entomology, and Marine Life. You will need a couple of days to explore the whole facility. At least once in your lifetime, you should try and visit them, it will be an experience for the whole family.
The North American Museum of Ancient Life The museum, located in Lehi Utah, boasts that they offer the largest collection of Dinosaurs on display. After spending several hours viewing their displays, I can vouch for their claims. Their displays contain some of the largest and smallest mounted skeletons, including flying and marine reptiles, a pair of T rex, a Supersaurus, and the new Bambiraptor. Look for my full review and virtual tour in an upcoming issue of Fossil News.
Falls of the Ohio State Park Located on the banks of the Ohio River in Clarksville, Indiana at I-65 exit 0 is the Falls of the Ohio State Park. The 386-million-year-old fossil beds are among the largest naturally exposed Devonian fossil beds in the world. The park features a spectacular interpretive center overlooking the fossil beds containing an exhibit gallery and video presentation.
